SPRING 2012 CHANGES
Boys Divisions Birth Dates Changed
The boys register by birth date with the year defined as September 1 through August 31. This is similar to a school grade structure. See the Divisions section below for details.
Families are responsible for reviewing and following the residency requirements
The ALC spring game season is restricted to families who reside within the City of Alexandria, not Fairfax County. Review the details on the Proof of Residency and Proof of Age below.
First Season Players are required to submit proof of age for boys and proof of grade for girls
Review the details on the Proof of Residency and Proof of Age below.
Families are responsible for confirming registration.
The registration program confirms the player’s registration by automatic email to the address associated with the player’s member account. This email clearly states that the player registered with ALC. Confirmation of the US Lacrosse membership, which is also an automatic email, does not confirm registration with ALC. Families can confirm registration 24 hours after completing the on line process by going to the ALC and selecting Member Account Info from the tabs on the left side of the page. Follow the instructions for “Confirm registration for an ALC season, event or team”.

SPRING 2011 REMINDERS
ALC Needs Coaches
The number of teams depends on the number of coaches. Coaching is a great way to learn the game and contribute to the community. Please consider coaching a team. Do you know someone with a lacrosse background? Do you know of a former youth player who is now in high school? Talk to them about coaching for ALC.
Team Slots are Limited – Register as early as possible
ALC reserves the right to end registration by age level at any time. The number of teams, and thus players, is determined by the number of coaches. Each age level is filled on a first-come basis. Registrations received after a division fills are put on the wait list. The wait list players are accepted if there are open slots on the appropriate age level team.
ALC does not cut registered players
All registered players are assigned to a team. Wait listed players are not guaranteed a spot. ALC conducts tryouts as required by NVYLL for the boys at U11, U13 and U15 and for the girls at grades 3 through 8. The purpose of tryouts is to determine team assignments.
US Lacrosse Membership
The player must establish or renew their membership directly with US Lacrosse. The ALC Online Registration automatically opens the US Lacrosse web site to verify the player's membership. The player pays the registration fee to US Lacrosse. The membership must be active through 06/30/2011 in order to proceed with registration. Membership in US Lacrosse is a requirement because ALC insurance is through the organization.
Residency, Proof of Age or Proof of Grade Requirements
All families are responsible for reviewing and adhering to requirements detailed in the Residency and Proof of Age or Grade Requirements section. Each player must have a valid set of documents on file with the club as detailed in the Residency and Proof of Age or Grade Documents section.
Payment Options
Payments are by Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards. Families that need to pay by check can contact the club directly to make arrangements.
Check Payment: Email: AlexandriaLacrosseClub@yahoo.com and put “Check Payment Request” in the subject line.
Financial Aid and Scholarships are available
See the Financial Aid Request page on the web site to submit the request.

DIVISIONS
BOYS
ALC participates in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL). The league divisions are by birth date for the boys. Players register for the division which contains their birthdate. Playing in a division one level up from the birth date division is discouraged. Players are prohibited from playing in a division lower than the division defined by their birth date by league rules.

What if my player wants to play up one division?
Players must try out for and play for teams based upon their birth date. Players will only be allowed to “play up” if ALC determines that it is necessary to move players to fill out rosters so that we can maximize participation at each age group. There is a question in the registration system to make this request. The final decision regarding level of play is made by the Commissioner.

Boys Divisions for Spring 2012
The divisions are based on birth date with the year defined as September 1 through August 31. This structure is close to a grade-based structure. Example: Spring 2012 Divisions are based on age as of 9/1/2011.

BU15 9/1/1996 8/31/1998

BU11 9/1/2000 8/31/2002
BU9 9/1/2002 8/31/2005

GIRLS
ALC participates in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL). The league divisions are by grade for the girls. Players register for ALC in their grade division. Playing in a division one level up from the grade division is discouraged. Players are prohibited from playing in a division lower than their grade division by league rules.

TRYOUTS
League rules require tryouts or skills assessments for every age group in which the club has multiple teams.  This is usually the boys’ U11, U13 and U15 groups and the girls’ grade 3 through 8 teams. The sessions are scheduled for late January or early February depending upon field availability. The details are distributed to registered players and posted to the web site when available. These sessions are restricted to fully registered players. No walk-in registrations are permitted. All registered players are placed on a team. ALC does not use tryouts to cut players from the program. Team assignments are completed in February and March.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Practices are conducted on fields in the City of Alexandria starting one month prior to the first game. ALC may conduct skill clinics starting in February depending on field availability and weather. The practice schedule is distributed after team assignments are completed and the coaches pick times that fit with their schedule. This is in late February or early March. The start time depends on the coach’s availability and field availability. Each team practices twice per week.

GAME SEASON
The game season runs from March through the middle of June. Practices start at least one month prior to the first game.

GAME DATES, TIMES AND LOCATIONS
The game schedule is developed and distributed by NVYLL. The ALC web site automatically links into the NVYLL web site. ALC accesses the NVYLL game schedule through the ALC web site though going directly to the NVYLL web site is an option. The game dates are published in November and posted to the ALC web site. The game times and locations are available one to two weeks prior to the first game.
